A global professional services and business consultancy wanted to engage and upskill new joiners, requiring them to interpret the practical reality of business strategy, organisation and management within their own business teams, and clients whom they will serve.
Our solution
We partnered with the client over a number of years, amending and adapting our approach as new technologies and solutions arose, incorporating world class insights at the edge of change, all in a seamless design that incorporated their experts, our simulations, and learner-centred technical inputs and case studies.
At the heart of the programme was an experiential business simulation, where participants formed and worked in competitive teams to organise, grow and develop a business in competition with others. Participants where tasked to lead the business from start-up to maturity, experiencing first-hand the strategic and operational challenges of managing for success, taking full responsibility for:
Setting and delivering a corporate strategy that reflect the real needs of stakeholders and the market
Optimising sales, operations, capabilities and resources, in the roles within the business
Managing cash flows and results, recognising those results as outputs of behavioural inputs
Responding to the dynamic and changing needs of the market, regulators, internal business teams, and external stakeholders
Managing strategic, operational and financial challenges to deliver viable and effective commercial outcomes.
….Blended around the simulation, facilitated workshops introduced key principles and concepts of business, supported by real-life examples and senior leadership insights that participants could apply in the simulation, helping to embed skills and behaviours. The programme focussed on practical solutions, rooted in the client-facing, ever-changing world of work that the consultants were entering, and placing the consultancy and the new joiners firmly within a value-added, transformative role.
The impact
The programme gave participants a relevant, practical and engaging start to their consultant careers, equipping them technical insight and practical experience to enhance their impact in client assignments. Linking strategy to operational insight, and blending commercial and financial output with behavioural inputs, with our client we developed an early experience that many were still talking about years later in their managerial careers.
