How our Deadline Dash activity works…
Each team is given its own letter-tile game board and set of tiles, with the objective of building interconnected words that generate the highest possible score through smart placement, timing, and use of bonus spaces:
- Teams have 10 timed opportunities to place words – two-minute windows every six minutes.
- Miss a window? Miss a turn. Teams must stay alert and proactive to maximise their score.
- Letters are earned by completing a series of creative activities and lateral-thinking challenges.
- Higher-value letters require more difficult challenges – adding a layer of strategy and excitement.
Teams undertake the activity at the same time but operate independently, encouraging them to develop and execute their own strategies without being influenced by competitors’ moves. This allows for creative approaches to risk, resource management, and long-term planning.
At predetermined intervals (after each word, or at the halfway point), teams rotate boards with another group. This forces participants to inherit an evolving situation, reassess priorities, and adapt quickly – mirroring real-world change management and strategic agility.
The session concludes with a final scoring round and a brief reflection, where teams share their strategies, surprises, and lessons learned. A winning team is crowned, but the real takeaway is the experience of collaboration, adaptability, and strategic thinking under pressure – ending the event on a high-energy, competitive, and celebratory note.
