Commercial Leadership
Stars, Cash Cows, Question Marks and Dogs.
Do you know which ones to back?Commercially sharp leaders do not invest in everything equally. They know where to push, where to harvest and where to stop. This activity uses the BCG Growth-Share Matrix to test exactly that thinking.
About this activity
You will work through five real leadership scenarios – each one a resource allocation decision that managers face. Your task is to place the product or business unit in the correct quadrant of the BCG matrix, then understand what that position demands commercially. The BCG matrix asks two questions: how fast is this market growing, and how strong is our position in it? The answers to those two questions determine whether you should invest, harvest, exit or hold. Getting that judgement right is what separates commercially aware leaders from those who rely on instinct alone.
