Foreign Exchange Market: Comprehend the size and liquidity of the market before spending time deconstructing the jargon. Learn about FX quotes and drivers of FX market. The workshop covers the second-largest segment of the foreign exchange (FX) market, which is FX forwards. It explores their connection to interest rates and demonstrates how market participants employ them for hedging FX risk through practical examples.

Commodities: futures, pricing drivers, swaps and diversification strategies

Derivatives Market: Simplify the complexities of derivatives markets by exploring its’ products. Understand the characteristics, risks, and returns associated with major derivatives through practical examples. Learn the differences between long and short positions, the mechanics of a futures contract, types of options, interest rate derivatives fundamentals. Dive into the trading mechanism and explore the utilisation of derivative contracts in hedging diverse risk types.

Excel for Finance: Learn about the look-up functions, formatting essentials, data validation, filtering and summarising data using pivot tables and statistical analysis (Standard deviation, correlation, Beta of a stock). Acknowledge and practice the utilisation of available tools for crafting visual charts and developing an interactive, dynamic dashboard using authentic financial data.

Practice and apply the key components of best practice financial modelling. 

Accounting and financial analysis:  Familiarise with the financial information employed in overseeing and reporting the financial performance of companies. Describe principles that underpin the construction of financial statements and why they are important. Construct simple financial statements that captures critical information about an entity’s financial performance. Calculate commonly used ratios – Price (P/E, P/B) and Enterprise Value (EV) ratios used to describe how business performance is unfolding over time.  

Financial modelling: Construct a three-statement financial model including income statement, balance sheet and cash flow statement. Understand corporate finance funding options including equity, bank debt and capital market debt, and where and when each is most appropriate. Calculate the cost of equity for a business – CAPM, betas and gearing. Construction of a comparative company table for a valuation including a discounted cash flow valuation with market multiples for a three-statement financial model. Appreciate the nature and drivers of the leveraged finance market. Learn to build M&A modelling and consolidated financial statements.  

Comprehend the risks encountered by banks and the Treasury’s role in effectively managing these risks. Understand the short term funding and longer term funding options available to the Bank. Have deeper insight of various interest rate derivative products the Bank uses to hedge their funding risk. Gain knowledge of key trade finance products: Letter of credit (LC), Supply Chain finance, Foreign exchange transactions, cash management by running a hands-on experiential simulation.

Dive into the major categories of risk – market risk, credit risk and operational risk.  

Gain clear understanding of banks business divisions, capital requirement and risk classification. Learn difference between accounting and regulatory capital. How minimum regulatory capital requirements have evolved, and understand the different types of capital, regulatory buffer and cyclical buffer requirements.  Analyse risk measurement tools such as Risk Weighted Assets (RWA) and Value at Risk (VaR).
