Why your business should be offering digital skills training

It has been reported that by 2020 more than 7 billion people and businesses and 30 billion devices will be connected to the internet.

Within a constantly changing technological world, companies must understand the crucial need to train their employees adequately. Failure to do so can result in companies being left behind.

The UK is reportedly lagging behind other countries in digital skills with only 16% of Brits stating they would feel comfortable to build a website in comparison to 39% of Brazilians and 37% in India. As one of the most active online consumer markets in the world, the UK is being outpaced in regards to creating new digital technologies.

Britain also falls behind on digital training in the workplace with just 38% of the UK receiving adequate training, behind the likes of China and the US where 48% state that their employers offered essential digital training.

What are Digital Skills?

Digital skills can be described as skills related to being digitally literate, the ability to find, evaluate, utilise, create and share content using information technologies and the internet.

In order for your workforce to be effective in the modern workplace, they must be competent in performing tasks online. We’ve highlighted a few, that we believe, are crucial to your company’s success.

Communication

It is reported, on average, workers will spend 28% of their working week reading and responding to emails. Making digital communication a top digital skill for your workforce.

Document creation

The two main systems that are used when creating digitally written documents are Google Drive and Microsoft Office. They are seen as key digital skills that all employees should be aware of as being able to create, format and collaborate on digital documents with colleagues and clients is key to opening the doors to a digitally focused workplace.

Social Media

Social media is seen as one of the most valuable digital skills which doesn’t require programme learning. In today’s world, getting noticed and gaining attention takes more than a big marketing budget, it takes the most current platform and the knowledge and experience of how to use it.
